The X Files season 11: Official announcement expected 'within weeks'

More on The X Files

After the surprise revival of The X Files with a 6-episode 'event' series at the start of 2016, anticipation has been high for an eleventh run of episodes. Details have been sketchy, with interest from all parties, including Fox, but lately those rumours have started to gain traction.

Now TV wise has reported that an announcement is just weeks away. What's more, Fox are looking for a more traditional run of episodes (i.e. 13). However, given the busy schedules of all involved - particularly Gillian Anderson - this is likely to be around 10 episodes. The plan is to shoot in Spring/Mid-2017 with a broadcast late next year.

It's nothing definite, but after the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of season 10, there's still plenty to resolve. And if we can get more classics like Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster then we could get something very special indeed. Just no more episodes like Babylon please.

With its mix of aliens, conspiracies, monsters and serial killers, it revolutionised cult television and returned for new six-part revival in 2016 and another 10 episodes in 2018.
