Hulu and Marvel developing The Runaways TV series
Not content to have The Defenders (and associated solo shows) on Netflix, Agents Of SHIELD on ABC, a Cloak And Dagger series in development with Freeform and Legion coming soon to Fox, Marvel have tapped Hulu to develop another property; The Runaways.
Deadline has reported that Marvel has hired Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage to develop the series based on the much loved comic series Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. The Runaways centres on a group of conflicted teenagers who are forced to work together after they discover that their parents are part of an evil crime organization called The Pride.
Speaking to Deadline, Schwartz said:
"I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life...Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu." - Deadline
Jeph Loeb, EP and Head of Marvel Television added:
"We’ve known the Runaways‘ story would make great television, and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie — who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience — write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable." - Deadline
Marvel has ordered a pilot and additional scripts, with an eye towards greenlighting a full season. More news as we have it.
