Chris Evans quits Top Gear after one series

Could Top Gear survive on the BBC without Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May? That was the question when Clarkson was fired and the trio headed off to do their own show on Amazon. Well apparently not that well it seems. After ratings for his first series headlining the show continued to drop, Chris Evans has quit the BBC flagship show.

Evans' co-presenters Matt LeBlanc, Rory Reid, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz and Eddie Jordan will all apparently be back for another series. On Evans' departure, Director of BBC Studios Mark Linsey made the following statement:

"Chris is stepping down from his duties on Top Gear. He says he gave it his best shot doing everything he could to make the show a success. He firmly believes that the right people remain, on both the production team and presenting team, to take the show forward and make it the hit we want it to be." - BBC

Filming on the next series of Top Gear will begin in September.
