The X Files will be back...just not anytime soon

We still haven't had that all-official announcement that The X Files will return for an eleventh season, but it seems like it is definitely happening - once a number of scheduling logistics have been sorted out. The revival that aired on Fox in the US - and Channel 5 here in the UK earlier in 2016 was a ratings success, with reactions to the episodes themselves ranging from critical acclaim (Mulder & Scully Meet the Were-Monster to frustratingly bad (My Struggle II). But most can agree that the fans will be back for more.

The latest update comes courtesy of Fox CEO Dana Walden, who has confirmed that conversations have been had with series creator Chris Carter, and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

"I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show. Hopefully, this time next year we will have more news." - Fox

What that probably means is that we will get an announcement about another run of episodes in 2017, meaning that it could be as late as 2018 before an eleventh season airs. But at least it means fans won't be left with that frustrating cliffhanger - and hopefully Chris Carter might actually provide some definitive closure this time round.

In the meantime, catch up our on continuing The X Files Revisited, with the latest episode, season five's Bad Blood.

The X Files

Chris Carter's The X Files was the cultural zeitgeist of the 1990s, turning Mulder and Scully into television heroes. With its mix of aliens, conspiracies, monsters and serial killers, it revolutionised cult television and returned for new six-part revival in 2016 and another 10 episodes in 2018.
