Castle may return for season nine - but ABC have dumped Stana Katic from the show.
Contains mild spoilers for Castle season eight...
How do you take a once great detective show and make it terrible? Well according to ABC the best course of action is to cut one of the two lead stars from the series; Stana Katic, aka Detective Kate Beckett has apparently been kicked off Castle along with another series regular Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) for budgetary reasons.
Deadline has exclusively revealed that ABC are planning to give Castle a 13-episode season nine. The show has already lost viewers in the US following the departure of series creator Andrew Marlowe at the end of season seven. The latest storyline has seen Castle and Beckett separated due to a convoluted plot which has seen the detective protect Castle from a conspiracy at play. It's hard to image the viewing figures picking up if season nine proceeds as planned.
ABC did confirm to Deadline that Katic and Jones had not been asked back of a potential season nine, without confirming if Castle would be back for another year. They did however make the following statement:
“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said in a statement to Deadline. “Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle." - ABC
Castle season eight is currently airing here in the UK on Alibi. Are you still be watching and will you continue next year without Beckett and Lanie?
