Broadchurch series three cast and details announced

Broadchurch will be returning next year for one final series and ITV have released details of the cast - new and old. Joining David Tennant as DI Alec Hardy and Olivia Coleman as DS Ellie Miller​, will be newbies Julie Hesmondhalgh,​ Georgina Campbell, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson and Mark Bazeley.

Other returning cast members include Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan as Beth and Mark Latimer, Carolyn Pickles as newspaper editor Maggie Radcliffe and Adam Wilson as Ellie's son Tom while Arthur Darvill will be taking a break from Legends Of Tomorrow to return as Vicar Paul Coates.

In addition to the new castmembers, ITV has also released a detailed synopsis, for what has been billed 'the final chapter'.

"The series explores the consequences of a serious sexual assault as a Dorset community comes under the scrutiny of Hardy and Miller’s investigation. Based on a year of research with Dorset-based organisations who specialise in dealing with victims of sexual assault, and police advisors who specialise in investigating crimes of sexual violence, Broadchurch’s final chapter looks at the emotional cost to all of those involved and the irreparable damage to friendships and relationships." - ITV


Broadchurch showrunner Chris Chibnall - who will move on to helm Doctor Who after this show ends - made the following statement on the show's third and final series:

"It's the "final chapter of Broadchurch. We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me." - ITV
