Doctor Who Spoiler Free Preview For Face The Raven
More on Doctor Who
After a slight blip last Saturday with Sleep No More (more to do with the incomprehensible ending than the premise), Doctor Who comes back stronger than ever in Face The Raven.
Like so much of series nine, it is hard to write a preview without delving into spoiler territory and there are some doozies here, though the BBC trailers released on Saturday gave away a little more than I would have preferred (namely a certain recurring immortal). I think if there was any episode to go into cold, this would be it.
What is great is seeing [Doctor] Clara's companion Rigsy back; they worked so well together in series eight's Flatline and his presence in this episode feels natural. He is an important part in Clara's journey and you'll find out why again this Saturday.
Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are amazing this episode, but you probably already knew that. Capaldi could recite the phone book and be mesmerising and moments like Clara versus Bonnie in The Zygon Inversion have proven why she will be missed after series nine has ended. New writer Sarah Dollard also emerges as the Jamie Mathieson of series nine. After this episode fans will be demanding that she makes a return in series ten (when and how it is broadcast) and I for one wouldn't argue with that.
It is also a glorious-looking episode - the setting is very reminiscent of Neverwhere or Harry Potter's Diagon Alley and there is a great deal of atmosphere and a real mystery for you to get your teeth into. Face The Raven might emerge as the fan favourite episode of series nine; I will be excited to see audience's reactions come Saturday night!
