Doctor Who Spoiler-Free Preview For Sleep No More
More on Doctor Who
One of the most interesting elements of season nine of Doctor Who is its ability to be innovative in its mix of storytelling. Starting with an end of series blockbuster, throwing in a claustrophobic horror ghost story and then delving into an intimate character piece between two immortals, this show isn't afraid to be inventive. And Sleep No More is certainly inventive.
Reece Shearsmith reunites with his League Of Gentlemen co-writer / star Mark Gatiss in another episode filled with plenty of scares - think Under The Lake, though unfortunately not quite on the same level. It will frighten the children though with an creative new monster. But the most innovative element of the episode is its found-footage style that breaks the mold of the standard episode format and at moments it is very well done.
I don't want to reveal anything but much of the fun will be in reacting to what happens. I also don't want to tease the ending. Sleep No More is an episode that should be viewed without any knowledge of what it is about, making a preview a bit difficult. Needless to say, Peter Capaldi is on fine form and Shearsmith's character is the most engaging of all the guest performances.
Saturday's reactions will be interesting - but then the great thing about Doctor Who is that it always gets very passionate reactions from its fans. Until then, stay unspoiled!
