Melody Pond makes a splash in the Doctor Who Christmas Special

It was only a matter of time, but Alex Kingston's River Song is to return to Doctor Who this Christmas. She may have already died and was last seen as a ghost, but when it comes to Who's timey-wimey happenings this isn't really much of an obstacle! The last time we saw her was in Matt Smith's closing arc when she appeared to him during 'The Name of the Doctor' so this is the first time she's had a chance to spar with Peter Capaldi's Doctor Number 12!

The BBC reported Kingston as saying "To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humour and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September? Why not!"

While it hasn't been confirmed yet, we'd be surprised if this wasn't aired at some point during the evening festivities on Christmas Day.
