Fox Confirms Live Action X Men TV Show Spin Off Is In The Works
The X Men universe may be coming to the small screen. After rumours back in January that Fox were bringing the franchise to television, Fox Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden confirmed yesterday that a deal with Marvel is close to being announced.
“We’re in negotiations with Marvel, we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon.” She then added “We’re not closed on a deal yet, but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing.”
Unlike Sony's deal to bring Spider-Man over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and vice versa - this deal would focus on the X Men rights already held by Fox and not include any of the MCU characters. Considering that, with films like the recently successful X Men: Days Of Future Past and the upcoming X Men: Apocalypse and Deadpool, Fox certainly don't need the MCU to revive their franchise in the way Sony does.
The TV show may not necessarily feature the movie characters in any significant role but is designed to be long-running series and not a limited run. With The CW's Arrow and The Flash and Marvel's Agent Carter and Daredevil proving popular, its not surprising Fox want to get in on the action.
