The Flash & Arrow spin-off gets title, synopsis and series order

The much discussed spin-off of The Cw's Arrow and The Flash has now been officially greenlit, even without the pilot episode produced. Though given the success of its two parent shows, The CW can be fairly confident on the success of a third. This show will go by the spectacular title DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and the official synopsis has been released...

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill will be taking on the (we assume) main role of Rip Hunter. He will be joined by Arrow's Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer / Atom, previously mooted to get his solo show and sure to be a big player in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Caity Lotz, the deceased Black Canary we also be a main character, though whether she will be playing her previous role remains to be seen. Perhaps the key to this is Hunter's time travelling abilities.

Heading over from The Flash will be Victor Garber's one half of Firestorm, Dr Martin Stein and recurring rogues Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell). Finishing off the cast will be Ciara Renee as Hawkgirl and Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson.

There is no word on whether DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will follow the full season, episodic nature of Arrow and The Flash or will be more serialised in nature. But the premise is intriguing enough, hopefully setting itself above the many, many superhero TV shows coming our way...
