Netflix renews Daredevil for second season
may still be a glint in Marvel and Netflix's eye, but its debut series Daredevil is already coming back for more as it gets a second season order, to air in 2016.
Given the critical acclaim the first season has got, the announcement that a second run of episodes has been ordered by Netflix shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. With Aka Jessica Jones available later this year, the assumption was that that 2016 would belong to Luke Cage and the as of yet uncast Iron Fist.
The questions of whether there would be a second season of any of those series before The Defenders has certainly been a cause of debate, but now it looks as if Daredevil will air alongside some of its sister shows.
It certainly looks as if the decision to give The Man Without Fear another 13 episodes was not originally planned as the show will be losing its showrunner Steven S. DeKnight due to other commitments. Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez , who worked alongside DeKnight and Drew Goddard in the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2.
Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard and Jeph Loeb will all serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.
On the announcement of the second season and his departure from the show, DeKnight said “While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season. I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."
