Arthur Darvill joins Arrow / The Flash spin-off TV series

More on Doctor Who

Arthur Darvill, best known as Rory Williams in Doctor Who is the latest to join the cast of the new Arrow / The Flash spin off TV series, playing genius time-traveller Rip Hunter.

Rip Hunter is one of the three big roles that had not yet appeared in either Arrow or The Flash, previously described as 'a Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbours many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.
In addition to Darvill's Rip Hunter, Ciara Renee has joined the show as Hawkgirl, leaving one mysterious role left to fill.

Both will join Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, the billionaire crime fighter (aren't they all in the DC universe) who recently suited up for the first time as The Atom in Arrow, Victor Garber as Martin Stein / Firestorm (minus Ronnie Raymond), Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave, and Caity Lotz as the (resurrected?) Sara Lance / Black Canary.
This new spin-off is shaping up to be an packed superhero / villain ensemble, though details on the plot are still thin on the ground. The CW look set to air this show during the 2015/16 season by which - we assume - Arrow will be on season five and The Flash on season three.

More news on that final character and the series' premise as we have it.
