Preacher TV Series finds its Cassidy
There are numerous comic-based TV shows in development at the moment, from Lucifer to Dreadstar to Supergirl. AMC's Preacher is one of the most eagerly anticipated of the bunch and the latest report from Deadline should gets fans even more excited.
Joseph Gilgun of This Is England and Misfits fame will be taking on the role of Irish vampire Cassidy, who joins the as of yet un-cast preacher Jesse Custer and Custer's ex-girlfriend Tulip (Agents Of SHIELD's Ruth Negga cast in the role) on a journey to find God. Most interestingly, this preacher from a small Texas town has the ability to make anyone do anything he says after he finds himself merged with a creature that has escaped from Heaven.
Preacher was a 1990s cult comic written by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. The TV project is being developed by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg for Sony TV and AMC Studios.
Joseph Gilgun Cassidy is described as 'the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence'.
Dominic Cooper is the rumoured contender for the lead role. Ian Colletti has also been cast as Eugene Root, aka Arseface.
