Syfy Confirms There Will Be No More Ascension
Here at The Digital Fix, we were rather fond of Ascension, the three-part sci-fi mini series that saw Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer part of a crew of a ship that left Earth in the 1960's in search of a new world. Of course, that was only the beginning and by the final episode, social experiments, murder, intrigue and power struggles delivered on the premise of the show. It had the potential to become something akin to syfy's Battlestar Galactica.
Unfortunately Syfy has decided not to pick up Ascensionfor a full series. A statement to Deadline confirmed "We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series."
While the final part offered some closure, there was the feeling that there was so much more story to be explored and this is disappointing news, particularly for much of the cast who were already talking about where their characters could go next.
If you haven't seen the mini-series yet, check it out. It is well worth it.
