Broadchurch To Return For Series Three
Last night ITV broadcast the final episode of series two of Broadchurch, which delivered a surprise conclusion to Joe Miller's trial and saw Ellie Miller and Alec Hardy finally crack the Sandbrook case. As a finale it wrapped up everything about these two cases, even if it wasn't in a way we originally expected.
And then just as the credits began to roll, ITV announced that the show would return for series three.
Is it necessary? Perhaps not, but then again we didn't know where series two would go. Despite a somewhat uneven story arc - check out the Digital Fix's Stephen Burn's excellent episode reviews - it gave something we hand't seen in TV before; what happens after the killer is caught.
There are no details yet on what Broadchurch series three will be all about or who will be involved - though we do know Olivia Coleman and David Tennant will be back and that is a great thing. The interplay between Miller and Hardy has remained a highlight of the show even when everything else went off on a tangent.
What we do know is that series creator / writer Chris Chibnall has had ideas for a third series for a while.
"This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I'm thrilled to be writing these characters once again."
