Last week we teased the mystery of the red dots as Doctor Who Series Nine ramped up production of block 2 filming, with Blink director Hettie Macdonald returning to direct the first two Moffat-written episodes. Now the BBC has revealed that a familiar foe will be returning to the show for the opening episodes - a two-parter no less...

"Everybody hide - Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”

That right. Missy is back to wreak more havoc in the Doctor. Michelle Gomez had amazing chemistry with Peter Capaldi last series and a rematch is is most definitely welcome. Just for fun, the BBC had released this clip of Gomez on set, eating an apple...evily...

In addition Jemma Redgrave will join the Doctor and Clara as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (who coincidentally is also about to get her own Big Finish audio drama).

The BBC have also revealed the second episode title for series nine too; The Magician's Apprentice will kick start the new series, concluding with The Witch's Familiar. This is the second two-parter announced for the series, with Toby Whitehouse also writing a ’creepy’ two-parter featuring Paul Kaye.

Series nine is shaping up to be as good as series eight. More news - including a confirmed air date - when it arrives!
