5 New Shows Green Lit By Amazon
Like online streaming rival Netflix, Amazon is pushing ahead with plenty new drama, comedy and children’s content, commissioning five new series, while renewing a second series of its comedy drama Mozart In The Jungle in 2016.
First up is Frank Spotnitz’s new drama The Man In The High Castle, which was Amazon’s most watched pilot ever. The show is based on the novel by Philip K. Dick’s, set in alternative future 20 years after the end of World War II. Nazi Germany and Japan won the war and have divided up the planet but tension between the two powers has begun to grow.
Amazon’s first ever documentary drama is The New Yorker Presents, which features the running of a New York magazine, while at the other end of the scale there are two kids series.
Just Add Magic is based on a book by Cindy Callaghan’s and sees Kelly Quinn and her friends uncover her grandmother’s cookbook containing magical recipes. The Stinky & Dirty Show is an animated show based on the I Stink! book series by Kate & Jim McMullan and focuses on best friends Stinky the garbage truck and Dirty, the backhoe loader.
Finally there is Mad Dogs, a dark comedy drama based on the UK series, which sees a group of 40 year old friends meet up for a reunion in a Belizean villa only for it to descend into lies and murder.
Plenty of new dramas; now the decision isn’t whether to get Amazon Prime or Netflix - the answer is get both.
