Could there be a small screen X-Men spin-off?
Twentieth Century Fox have confirmed that they're investigating the possibility of a small screen series set within the X-Men universe and are currently working on a deal with the franchise owners Marvel to make this a reality. Right now, the movie series rights are owned by Fox, while the comics are owned by Marvel but initial indications are that both parties are interested in coming to an arrangement. Fox entertainment chairman Gary Newman told TV Insider "We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative."
In fact, Fox already have creative team in mind - 24 producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz are in line to produce while recently appointed Star Trek 3 scribes Patrick McKay and JD Payne are being courted with a view to pen the pilot episode(s).
X-Men is still hot property on the big screen, so it'll be interesting to see whether the TV series complements the film series or reboots the concept for the episodic format.
