Masters of the Universe: Revelation - Netflix enlist Kevin Smith to resurrect the eighties animation

Following their successful She-Ra reboot, it seems Netflix are going all in on the eighties cartoon nostalgia with the news that Masters of the Universe is set to get an updated treatment courtesy of Kevin Smith. While the title doesn't mention anything to do with He-Man, we're pretty sure it'll continue to focus on him and Battle Cat as they lead their varied ensemble in the fight against Skeletor.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation will pick up directly from the stories developed during the 1980's show and is described as "a wholly original story set in the epic world of Mattel's over 35-year-old global He-Man toy franchise."

"I'm Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe," Smith said in a statement. "In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! This is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!"

Of the new announcement, Netflix tweeted: "The war for Eternia begins again! Superstar director Kevin Smith continues the original series' story right where it left off in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a new series telling the epic tale of what may be He-Man and Skeletor's final battle"

Smith will be joined Marc Bernardin, Eric Carrasco, Tim Sheridan and Diya Mishra to write the new series. We have no news on voice cast or release date yet but will bring you that news as soon as we can.
