Doctor Who - The Series 8 News Roundup - Capaldi's costume revealed
Rather than flood the site with Doctor Who news, we'll instead be keeping this one post up to date with the latest updates on the next set of adventures with the Timelord. We know a little about the plans for the next year - Peter Capaldi is our new Doctor - either number 12, 13 or 14 depending on how you want to count them. Jenna Coleman is in for another year too as Clara Oswald.
The first official image from Series 8 filming was recently released and is below.
Below is our list what we know about each episode so far. Some of this is assumption based on information we've seen out there - we'll correct errors as and when we get more clarity. We know there are definitely THIRTEEN episodes that will air in the Autumn/Winter and our bet is that there will be the regular Christmas outing on top of this too.
Other film directors have shown an interest in Doctor Who including Rian Johnson, Peter Jackson and Edgar Wright (who was at one point expected to direct a Christopher Eccleston episode) - and we know Jackson is certainly involved in some stage of talks but we don't expect any of them to direct episodes of this year's run. We do know that Paul Murphy and Douglas Mackinnon are definitely down to direct this year.
Writers who have expressed an interest in contributing to Series 8 include Armando Ianucci (who previously wrote for Peter Capaldi in The Thick of It) and Chris Chibnall (fresh from his success with Broadchurch). Confirmed writers so far, other than Steven Moffat include Stephen Thompson, Mark Gatiss, Phil Ford, Gareth Roberts and Neil Cross.
Other rumours include the return of the clockwork robots from The Girl in the Fireplace and Alex Kingston has hinted she could be back as River Song at some point.
Update: 27th January 2014The first official shot of Peter Capaldi's costume has been released by the BBC. It looks to us like a bit of a throwback the Hartnell's outfit with a bit of Pertwee thrown in for good measure...
