Batwoman picked up for a full season order at The CW, along with Nancy Drew and Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene

Arrow might be ended it's eight year run with a final 10-episode run next season, but its successor is already waiting in the wings. Following her debut in last year's Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds, Batwoman will be getting a full season order, joining The Flash, Supergirl and The Legends of Tomorrow.

A pilot for the series was previously ordered by The CW, starring Ruby Rose as Kate Kane / Batwoman and expectation was high that it would lead to a full season order, particularly with current, dark gritty Arrow about to come to an end. Here's the official synopsis from The CW...

“Batwoman” is based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.

Caroline Dries will write and executive produce Batwoman. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, David Nutter and Marcos Siega will also serve as executive producers, with Siega also directing the pilot. Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Batwoman wasn't the only pilot picked up to full series by The CW. Katy Keene - a spin-off of Riverdale, has also been given a full season order. The show is based on Archie Comics character, aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), who meets Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), fresh off the bus to chase her musical dreams. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez – and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp).

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa — chief creative officer of Archie Comics — and Michael Grassi will write and executive produce Katy Keene. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Maggie Kiley, and Jon Goldwater — Archie Comics CEO and Publisher — will also executive produce and Kiley will also direct the pilot. Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.

Nancy Drew is the third show picked up by The CW, set in the summer after Nancy’s (Kennedy McMann) high school graduation. She thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation, and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.

Noga Landau, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will serve as writers and executive producers on Nancy Drew. Lis Rowinski, Melinda Hsu Taylor and Larry Teng will also executive produce. Teng will direct the pilot. CBS Television Studios will produce in association with Fake Empire.

The network also announced that it would not move forward with Jane The Virgin spin-off Jane The Novela.
