Laura Donnelly cast as the lead in Joss Whedon's The Nevers.

Joss Whedon's new TV series  The Nevers has found it's leading lady. Deadline has revealed that Laura Donnelly has been cast as the lead in the HBO sci-fi drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world.

Donnelly will play Amalia True, the most reckless, impulsive, emotionally damaged hero of her time. A menace to stuffy Victorian society, she would die for the cause and kill for a drink. Here's what Whedon had to say about the casting.

“Laura Donnelly has charisma, wisdom and an anarchic precision that not only captures Amalia but defines her. She’s fierce and she’s funny – and I need both for the journey ahead.”

Whedon, who serves as showrunner, will direct the opening episode, which he will co-write with regular Whedon alums Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie. All three will serve as executive producers alongside Bernie Caulfield.

Donnelly is Whedon's latest leading lady following Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar and Dollhouse's Eliza Dushku. The Northern Irish actress is best known for her recurring role as Jenny Fraser in Outlander.
