ABC renewals: The Good Doctor gets a third season, Modern Family to end with eleventh and final season
It's that time of year again when US networks make the decisions about some of our favourite shows and over at ABC, four shows are returning, one of which will be its last.
The Good Doctor, starring Freddie Highmore as autistic Doctor Shaun Murphy (and airing on Sky Witness in the UK) has been picked up for a third season. The second season recently returned from its mid-season break. Also renewed are Shark Tank and A Million Little Things.
But this biggest announcement concerns long-running comedy series Modern Family, which has been renewed for an eleventh and final season. The series, created by Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd has been a big hit in the US and it's UK home on Sky One. Here's what Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment had to say:
“Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history. In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”
Lloyd also made a statement:
“For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of ‘Modern Family.”
Levitan added jokily:
“Even after 10 years together, we realized there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives.”
Modern Family is airing its tenth season now. The Network previously announced a two-season pick up for Agents of SHIELD, with the 13-episode season six due to air this summer.
