S.J. Clarkson to direct pilot for Game of Thrones prequel. Eight new cast members added.

While we eagerly await the final season of Game of Thrones and its six movie-style final episodes, production is gearing up on the first prequel series, with The Wrap confirming that S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to to direct the pilot episode.

Joining confirmed stars Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse are eight new cast members too. Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.

The Wrap has not been able to provide character details for the show, which is still officially entitled (but may be called The Long Night according to George RR Martin). He is working with Jane Goldman, who is overseeing the show for HBO. Here's that official synopsis from the cable network.

“The prequel chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”
