No new Doctor Who in 2019 (other than the New Year's Day special)

Jodie Whittaker's first season of Doctor Who came to a close this evening and with it comes the news that, other than the New Year's Day special, the series will not be back on our screens again until 2020. This is a surprising turn of events this early in Chris Chibnall's leadership.

The Chibnall/Whittaker debut season has done pretty well in the ratings and Jodie Whittaker recently confirmed that she is returning for a complete second series of the show despite reports suggesting that she may leave during her second year.

Jodie's Doctor will next appear on 1st January 2019 in 'Resolution'.

The long-running BBC TV science fiction series that started in 1963 and recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. 2017 saw Peter Capaldi regenerate into the show's first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker. The Thirteenth Doctor's first season debuts in 2018, with Chris Chibnall replacing Steven Moffat as the current showrunner.
