No season three for Iron Fist as Netflix cancels the show
While Marvel series Daredevil is about to air it's third season later this month and Jessica Jones will also be getting a third run (presumably next year), Iron Fist will not be joining them. Netflix has cancelled the show after just two seasons.
The series starred Finn Jones as Danny Rand, AKA The Immortal Iron Fist, who returned to New York after years away to reclaim his company and fight crime. The 10-episode second season recently aired on Netflix, but never had much critical acclaim.
Marvel and Netflix released the following joint statement:
“‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’ will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal ‘Iron Fist’ will live on.”
Shortly after the cancellation was announced, Finn Jones made the following statement on social media.
“With every end is a new beginning, I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show. Defending the greatest city in the world amongst the most talented and warmest people has been a privilege and a joy. Blessed to have taken this journey and grateful for the ongoing support.”
Jones could presumably return in other Marvel / Netflix shows as well as team-up series The Defenders, though no second season has been announced since it aired on Netflix last year.
Fellow series Luke Cage also aired it's second season this year but no word has been given on whether it will get a third.
