Channel 5 drops Big Brother
Channel 5 has announced their intention to stop broadcasting Big Brother once the new series that starts this evening ends. The show has been plagued with controversy over the last few years and the latest Celebrity Big Brother was particularly bad with instances of racism, physical assault accusations and the fact that it people who have a problematic history back into the public spotlight.
There is every chance another channel will pick up the show, which is produced by Endemol - it has already switched from Channel 4 to Channel 5 in the past and it certainly still generates plenty of promotion and coverage in the mainstream press to justify a financial investment by another network.
The recent run of Celebrity Big Brother, which concluded on Monday evening saw ex-soap actor Ryan Thomas winning - his chances likely buoyed by false accusations that he intentionally hit fellow housemate Roxanne Pallett; she eventually left the house and apologised. Rodrigo Alves was removed from the house for repeatedly using racist terms.
