Doctor Who Favourites Bernard Cribbins, Freema Agyeman and Russell T Davies to reunite in CBeebies series

Bernard Cribbins returns for his first regular role for 20 years in children's TV with Old Jack's Boat.

The CBeebies series will combine live action and animation, and follow an old fisherman (played by Cribbins) who tells tale in his boat, The Rainbow.

Former Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies has penned two episodes and said he is delighted that Cribbins had been cast. He said:

"Sitting watching Bernard Cribbins reading out some lines that you've written, I can't tell you how good it was, it was a joy."

Cribbins previously played Wilfred Mott during Russell T Davies' tenure as writer of Doctor Who. They will be joined by former Doctor Who actress, Freema Agyeman who played companion Martha Jones in the series.

His previous experience in Children's TV includes being the regular host of Jackanory until 1991 and narrated The Wombles between 1973 and 1975.

Old Jack's Boat airs on 21 January on CBeebies, and will be the first CBeebies series to include a score from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The long-running BBC TV science fiction series that started in 1963 and recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. 2017 saw Peter Capaldi regenerate into the show's first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker. The Thirteenth Doctor's first season debuts in 2018, with Chris Chibnall replacing Steven Moffat as the current showrunner.
