Henry Cavill joins the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher - in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia
More on Netflix
With his negotiations for a return to the DC universe as Superman at a stalemate, it seems that Henry Cavill isn't hanging around and has been cast in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix adaptation of The Witcher.
Most widely known as a video game series, The Witcher is based on the series of stories by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski. There has previously been a TV/film adaptation (known as The Hexer)) which wasn't warmly received by the author, this latest take on the stories with Sapkowski on board as creative consultant.
The first season of The Witcher will run for 8 episodes when it debuts on Netflix. The show runner Lauren S. Hissrich took to Twitter to announce the news of Cavill's casting today.
He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family.

Where this development leaves Cavill's Superman is now very much in question - his commitment to the series would seemingly preclude him from donning the cape again in the near future.
