Altered Carbon renewed for season two, Anthony Mackie to replace Joel Kinnaman

Netflix has renewed sci-fi drama Altered Carbon for a second season, Variety has revealed. And it will have a new leading actor too. Anthony Mackie will be taking up the role of Takeshi Kovacs from Joel Kinnaman.

The series, based on the novels by Richard K. Morgan is set in the future, where the human mind has been digitised and a person's consciousness can travel from one body to the next. It's the premise that can allow Mackie to take on the same role played by Kinnaman in season one.

Laeta Kalogridis will continue as showrunner and executive producer and will be sharing those duties with Alison Schapker, who will also serve as co-showrunner and executive producer. This is Mackie's first regular television role.
