The CW developing Batwoman TV series as the Arrowverse expands
Following the recent announcement that Batwoman and Gotham City would debut in next season's crossover between Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, it appears that the DC superhero may be getting a full series of her own. Variety has revealed that development is underway on a Batwoman TV series, to debut in 2019.
Caroline Dries, who worked with The CW as writer and producer on The Vampire Diaries will serve as writer and executive producer on the series. Arrowverse co-creator Greg Berlanti will also executive produce with Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.
Variety has posted a tagline for the series.
In the series, Kate Kane, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
