Alex Kurtzman to take over as Star Trek: Discovery showrunner as Gretchen Burg and Aaron Harbets step down
It's all change behind the scenes on Star Trek: Discovery yet again. Bryan Fuller quit his role as showrunner before season one had even made it's debut and now showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have been replaced, Deadline has confirmed.
Current executive producer Alex Kurtzman will take over as sole showrunner for Season two. CBS Studios made the following statement to Deadline regarding the change.
“We’ve made some producer changes at Star Trek: Discovery. The series continues under the creative vision and leadership of executive producer and co-crejator Alex Kurtzman. Discovery remains on course for season two in 2019 with new and continuing stories that build on its successful premiere season.”
While there have been rumours of conflict behind the scenes with Berg and Harberts over bullying and budgetary concerns, this has not been confirmed. Deadline has noted that production is currently underway on Episode five of the season two. There is a scheduled hiatus coming up, and filming will continue after that.
