HBO orders pilot for Game of Thrones prequel series from Jane Goldman and George RR Martin

Following last year's news that HBO were developing five new prequel series to Game of Thrones, the US cable network has ordered a pilot, written by the man behind the novels, George RR Martin, and acclaimed screenwriter Jane Goldman.

The series will be set thousands of years before Game of Thrones and will 'chronicle the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour'. HBO has released the following logline:

“Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”

The final season of Game of Thrones will air in 2019 with what is being described as 'six one-hour movies'.
