Joss Whedon returns to television to executive produce new female-centric detective series

Joss Whedon is returning to television. The man that brought us Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, is set to executive produce a new female-centric detective series for US network Freeform, Variety has confirmed.

Pippa Smith: Grown-Up Detective follows a twenty-something former kid sleuth, as she deals with relationships, addiction and being too dang old for the detecting game. Each episode, Pippa solves a new case, while unraveling a bigger mystery and attempting to navigate a messy personal life. The dark comedy series is being developed by Siobhan Thompson and Rebecca Drysdale.

It's not known if Whedon will write or direct episodes. He also serves as executive produce on Agents of SHIELD but has had little involvement since working on the pilot episode six years ago.
