Ricky Gervais new dark 'comedy' is peak Gervais and as a result is already boring us
Ricky Gervais' recent Netflix stand-up show, Humanity, succeeded in two things - being needlessly offensive and making huge amounts of money for both the comedian and streaming service, so there's little doubt that their next venture will be more of the same.
Now we have a pretty good idea of what it will entail...
I start pre production on my new Netflix show tomorrow. It's a 6 part, dark comedy, in which I play a man who, after the death of his wife, becomes suicidal but decides to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever the fuck he likes from now on. pic.twitter.com/7AwmV6rEbd — Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) May 7, 2018
Seriously, how 'Gervais' can one synopsis be? It also sounds like a checklist of trigger warnings - death, suicide - humour can be found in anything, and if handled correctly we're pretty sure both of these can be funny... But, in Ricky Gervais' hands and being used as an excuse to be as offensive as possible with the defence of artistic licence; we're not so sure.
We don't have much else to go on right now, but we fully expect it to do the numbers for Netflix when it launches and will give them ample reason to commission more Gervais "goodies".
