Claire Danes confirms season eight of Homeland will be the last
Espionage thriller Homeland was a critical hit in its first season, but like many shows with a stellar first season, it failed to live up to the hype. However, the departure of Damian Lewis's Brody after season three led to another creative resurgence and a quasi-anthology series, with each season, helmed by Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison, set within a new location and story.
The show is currently airing its seventh season in its new Washington DC locale and now Danes has confirmed, during an interview with Howard Stern, that this year will become the penultimate run of episodes; season eight, likely to air in 2019, will be the last.
Danes has won critical acclaim for her role as the CIA agent struggling with bipolar disorder while fighting to stop terrorists. The show was renewed last year for two seasons, meaning the writers have had time to wrap things up across both seasons.
Season seven is currently airing Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
