Worzel Gummidge could be coming back to TV
Comedy website, Chortle, are reporting that the classic children's book series, Worzel Gummidge, could be coming back to UK TV with The Office star, Mackenzie Crook, developing the project based on the original stories by Barbara Euphan Todd.
Crook is also expected to star as the scarecrow.
Worzel Gummidge was previously a huge hit for kids TV in the early 1980's with ex-Doctor Who star Jon Pertwee playing the titular scarecrow and Una Stubbs playing Aunt Sally. Pertwee played the role in both the 1979 ITV series and a second New Zealand based version of the show that debuted in 1987.
Mackenzie Crook's take is said to be contemporary, but based on the stories originally published between 1936 and 1963.
