Y: The Last Man TV series in development as pilot ordered by FX

After a long period of development, US cable network FX has ordered a pilot for a new TV series based on Brian K. Vaughan's beloved comic book series Y: The Last Man.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal will serve as co-showrunners and Melina Matsoukas will direct.

The comic book series by DC Comics / Vertigo title launched in 2002 and centres around Yorick Brown — the last surviving human with a Y chromosome — and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, following a plague that has wiped out the male chromosome.

Here's FX's brief description of the series.

"All of the men are dead. But one. Y traverses a world of women — exploring gender, race, class and survival."

There is no news yet on who might play Yorick, but given the critical acclaim around the series, interest is sure to be high.
