Star Wars: The Acolyte release date: The final duel in The Phantom Menace

What happens in The Acolyte?

Set in the final days of the High Republic era, The Acolyte will follow a Jedi Master and their former Padawan as they investigate a string of mysterious crimes.

According to the series’ official logline, The Acolyte will explore the “emerging dark-side powers” and “shadowy secrets” that underpin the galaxy and High Republic during that era.

In an interview with Empire, showrunner Leslye Headland explained how also at the heart of the series is the idea that the Jedi aren’t as perfect as everyone thinks, and how their shortcomings, in part, may have led to their own downfall.

“When you’re doing something completely original, like we are, you want to question the status quo of the era that you live in,” she explained. “What I think is so interesting right now is that everybody thinks they’re right! The Jedi really think they’re right — and George [Lucas] tells us that they’re wrong in [The Phantom Menace]. They missed a huge aspect of the dark side rising. That just felt like fertile ground to look into what’s going on for all of us right now.”
