Nnena is the first signing on JJ Abrams new music label. Check out her debut video
Not content with winning TV and Film with his Bad Robot production company - that counts Lost, Star Trek, Star Wars and the Cloverfield films amongst it's impressive oeuvre, JJ Abrams has now set up a record label - Loud Robot.
And the first signing, Nnena, today shares her debut track and video - the powerful 'Lovesick'. You can watch it above.
Nnena’s inspiration comes from female MC storytelling elites. Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, Missy Elliot and Queen Latifah line the inside locker of her mind. She has taken her hard hitting hooks and flowing melodies across the US, performing alongside WS Boogie, Mayorkun and Trinidad James. “This project is a diary of musical secrets coming to light by the right type of bitch,” she says. “A liberating fuck you to anyone who has felt pain by anyone. I want my music to be the light at the end of a damaged person’s tunnel.”
A record sprung from passion, heartbreak and taking back power, 'Lovesick' celebrates our flaws and breaks down how the different sides of one’s self reacts, responds and repairs after loss. Revered for her humour and ferocity, the multi-talented artist also made many of the video’s character costumes which represent her own aspirational personas.
