Introducing... Delaire

Delaire is a name you're going to hear a lot in the next few years. The London-based singer has already performed at Maida Vale and her new single, Don't Move is one of the freshest dance tracks we've heard in some time. We were lucky enough to get a few minutes with her to answer a few questions...

Would you like to introduce yourself to the TMF readership?

Hi TMF I am Delaire from London :)

Do you have an earliest musical memory? Was there a record or act that made you think 'I want to do this!'

I always loved music and felt a connection to it from a really young age. I remember seeing the Spice Girls at Wembley and being totally blown away by it all and going home and learning all the lyrics and dance moves!

If we were to look at your MP3 player, is there anything on there you'd rather we didn't see? Do you have your own stuff on there?

I do have my own music, I am really proud of the tracks I have been creating and can be known to have a self indulging moment on the tube to one of my songs! Anything I wouldn't want you to see? Not at all, all music can be inspiring. In the industry I am in I believe you have to respect all artists and genres, I don't see the point in undermining another artist or band it doesn't make your own music any better by doing so.

Is there any style of music you just don't get?

I have never been a huge fan of really heavy metal music, although I did once pretend to be really into to impress my mates brother when I was like 14 so spent a lot of time listening to Machine Head and grew to actually really like some of it.

Are there any artists you'd really like to collaborate with in the future?

I would love to do a track with Disclosure, a real summer banger would be fun.

Do you think living in London has an effect on your music?

It means I have access to a lot of live music which I love, there's a gig every day of the week which is just amazing. There's so many great musicians here and it's nice having like minded people to surround you.

What's next for Delaire?

I have lots of new material so we are working out what to release next, and who to release it though as I understand there are some interested parties in the mix. I'll be playing more shows of which the next is at Paper Dress Vintage on 17th March for the Indigo Sessions.

What's the question we should have asked you today?

My least favourite question used to be what's the highlight of your career to date, I never knew what to say but I recently did a session at Maida Vale studios for BBC introducing and it was without a doubt one of the best days of my life. Listen to it here.
