Various - Now 61

The latest instalment of the long-running Now series does the expected job of reflecting what's popular with single buyers. Thus most of what's here can be broken down into new guitar bands (Kaiser Chiefs, Hard-Fi), R&B (Mario, Mariah Carey) or pop (Charlotte Church, Rachel Stevens), with a sense of creative poverty evenly spread between genres. One wonders also if there should be a term invented for songs which are so irritatingly horrible that exposure to them could be damaging to a person's mental health - step forward Akon, Roll Deep, James Blunt and, of course, Crazy Frog. Now 61 does include some fine tunes (by the likes of Gorillaz, The Magic Numbers and Deep Dish), but ultimately just performs the same function as commercial radio. For chart tarts only.

We need your help

Running a website like The Digital Fix - especially one with over 20 years of content and an active community - costs lots of money and we need your help. As advertising income for independent sites continues to contract we are looking at other ways of supporting the site hosting and paying for content.

You can help us by using the links on The Digital Fix to buy your films, games and music and we ask that you try to avoid blocking our ads if you can. You can also help directly for just a few pennies per day via our Patreon - and you can even pay to have ads removed from the site entirely.
