Various - Massive Reggae
If anything, Massive Reggae serves to prove that "old" reggae is far better than "new"; but who didn't know that already? It's instinctive, rather like knowing Fearne Cotton is an annoying bint.
Most of the good stuff here is pre-1985, honourable exceptions being Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock, with its angry dub sound, and Dawn Penn's You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)). Also included are undisputed classics from Jimmy Cliff, Junior Murvin and Grace Jones, but these are balanced against the cartoon bragging of Shaggy and Shabba and, those kings of cod reggae, UB40. Still, we should be grateful we're spared any Ali Campbell solo material.
