Various Artists - Latest & Greatest Musicals

Let's not beat around the bush here, Latest & Greatest Musicals is exactly what you should expect; a deluxe 3CD boxed set featuring the biggest stars from both stage and screen musicals including Michael Ball, Elaine Paige, John Barrowman, Michael Crawford, Philip Schofield, Julie Andrews, Jason Donovan and Jodie Prenger (from the BBC TV show I’d Do Anything). If the world of musical theatre is your bag then this is manna for your i-pod but if the thought of Frank Spencer singing about a tuneful ghost fills you with horror then drop everything and run for the hills before we get to Poppy Lee Friar's rendition of the manic 'Tomorrow' from Annie.

Don't throw in the towel too easily though as a quick glance outside your window will remind you that winter draws on and the festive season is nearly upon us. What will you get for good old Aunty Doris this year? Look no further than this collection of joyful showstoppers which is released in conjunction with The Society of London Theatre (the official association for the London theatre industry). When it arrives you might even be tempted to break open the seal yourself and possibly glide across the kitchen floor to 'I could have danced all night' or even relive those old episodes of the Two Ronnies by spending some time with Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson. Even the stoniest heart couldn't fail to be moved by the larger than life joviality of Topol and his unforgettable rendition of 'If I Were A Rich Man'.

It is undoubtedly a cheese fest but there are some real gems to be uncovered here and, at the very least, you can guarantee that Aunty Doris will remember you in her will.
