The Chemical Brothers - Brotherhood

"Cheeky gits!" I hear you cry. Only two albums on from Singles 1993 - 2003, The Chemical Brothers release another "greatest hits" compilation with a nine track overlap. The main draw here, however, is a bonus disc which collects together all ten "Electronic Battle Weapons" so far, for the first time on CD. These are either (a) longer versions of tracks that would later be released on albums or as singles (see, for example, Under The Influence and stunning latest single Midnight Madness) or (b) tracks that find Tom and Ed flexing their serious dance muscles. The likes of "Electronic Battle Weapons" 1 and 2, with their drawn-out nods to acid house, are in interesting contrast to the Brothers' radio-friendly numbers.

Which brings us neatly back to disc one. Tom and Ed can lay claim to some of the best singles of the 90s and 00s. This, remember, is a dance act that have outlived and outgunned many a big rock band. Galavanise, Hey Boy Hey Girl and Star Guitar require no introduction. (Additionally, they've done us the favour of omitting The Salmon Dance.) The one new track here, Keep My Composure, is another fine Chemicals-gone-hip-hop tune and features Spank Rock on vocals.

If you don't already own most of these singles, Brotherhood is an essential purchase. And, if you do own most of these singles, you're going to want the "Electronic Battle Weapons", aren't you?
