Pop Levi - Blue Honey

It's perhaps not often a label creates a new imprint specifically for the release of one artist's work. Nevertheless this is what Ninja Tune did when confronted with the preposterously named Pop Levi, who has previously played with Super Numeri and Ladytron.

The PR material states his forthcoming album has been mixed by Devendra Banhart's producer. It's not clear whether he's also twiddled the knobs here, but these five tracks, swaying between glammy riffing (Blue Honey, Mournin' Light) and a more bluesy influence (the rest), are not a million miles away from the eccentric DB. Although intriguing musically, this reviewer was put off by Pop Levi's weedy indie voice.
