Our Broken Garden - Lost Sailor

Set sail on a new voyage into the still waters of graceful female balladry previously occupied by Joan Wasser and Cat Power. Recently signed to Bella Union, the 'it' label for quietly affecting avant garde music, Our Broken Garden is Anna Broensted. Hailing from Denmark, her debut EP enlists the talents of various musician friends and really wants to document the quiet, pondering moments at the end of your working day.

Imagine the measured, fragile torch songs present on Emiliani Torrini's Fisherman's Woman but less lo-fi, and you're not too far removed. Atop backdrops of organ, piano and strings, Broensted's haunting voice rides the sonic waves to deliver seductive lines like 'stay with me, nourish me here'. The barely-there etherealism of interlude Anchoring echoes Sigur Ros, as well as furthering the water metaphors consistent throughout. The highlight of this short collection is When Your Blackening Shows, which adds electronic effects to the organic instrumentation to create something genuinely unsettling. Look out for a full-length album soon.
