LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum

LCD Soundsytem's James Murphy has an impressive ability to fuse together seemingly disparate influences to create something fresh and, amazingly, danceable. North American Scum has it all from the bouncing rhythm section to the cutting guitar riff and half-arsed vocals that place him somewhere between Bowie and Mark E. Smith. There's something undeniably British about his sound but maybe that's part of the overall comment, his post-modernist take on being an American in today's climate and all that goes with it. Whilst I wasn't completely won over by this debut record, this single possesses so much class, originality and sheer good times feeling, that it really deserves to be topping the chart come next week. Oh, and the video's pretty cool too.
