Lawrence - Swap
Peter M. Kersten is a DJ and producer on the German dance scene, releasing records under various pseudonyms, depending on what category they fall under.
Kersten also does 'abstract hip-hop' (as Lloyd) and 'ambient guitar' (as Bordeaux), but Lawrence seems to fit best with the man who found a love of acid house in 1988. The original and Carsten Jost mixes of Swap are gently-uplifting, wide-eyed tracks. Both are 'deep' in sound and infested with the sort of otherwordly noise which recalls the likes of The Orb and 808 State. Clocking in at over 11 minutes, the Serafin remix is more about hypnotic, minimalist rhythms; afterwards, you may well feel like your brain has been drilled, mined and drained of its resources by aliens.
It's all good, however, and arguably the best Novamute release so far this year. Album The Night Will Last Forever is to follow on May 16th.
